Vallejo Adult School’s Mission is to provide quality education and preparation for the diverse citizens of the greater Vallejo community so that all may actively participate in the family, the community, the workplace, and the electoral process. In an effort to promote and provide life-long learning, we offer a broad-based curriculum to assist students in the development of basic skills, academic competence, job preparation, personal enrichment, intellectual growth and citizenship. We offer classes year round in four terms. Term start and end dates are listed in the Calendar. We have made changes to improve operations and added several new classes for Spring Quarter. We have expanded office hours on Fridays, increased afternoon and evening security and parking with help from the district maintenance department. We continue to have counseling available during day and evening hours.
To provide more students with the opportunity to earn a their GED or High School Diploma, all Adult Basic Education, GED Preparation and High School Diploma classes are offered free of charge.
Our Lending Library has a wide selection of books for borrowing and we are establishing College and Career Bulletin boards to showcase academic and career training and job opportunities and resources.
Our gym is now open and is currently used for the Fit After Fifty exercise program. We plan to offer the gym for other student and community use in the future.
The Senior Options Programs received a major facelift of the garden and green space areas with the generous help from the C.C. Sabathia PitchIN foundation Perri Tanner, Coordinator of the Older Adults Program, spearheaded this effort and our clients are very pleased with their new garden.
We have restructured our ESL Program to include computer and technology skills training at every level and have added a Family Literacy class on Fridays at the Vallejo Adult School campus from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. Parents and children will be able to learn together in a comfortable and supportive environment.
To expand our Career Technical Education programs, we have added Web Page Design and Construction for building web pages and Information Technology (IT) Essentials to provide training in computer construction, troubleshooting and repair. IT Essentials is the introductory class for the Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) and Cisco Certified Network Associates. (CCNA) programs
The Vallejo Adult School Leadership Team is continuing to work with staff from Solano CommunityCollege on the articulation of our ESL, academic and vocational programs so our students can see pathway between our schools. This collaboration may also identify service gaps to be addressed by new programs or counseling services to assist students as they transition to higher education.
