In our Fall term we had increased demand for Basic Math, GED Preparation and High School diploma classes. We have added more sections in the Winter Term to meet this need. We will continue to offer a variety of academic, vocational and Older Adult programs including the new Care Giver Training, Watercolor Painting and Zumba Gold classes. We have expanded office hours on Fridays and offer academic counseling during day and evening hours.
All of our GED preparation and High School diploma classes are free of charge. We offer morning, afternoon and evening classes for easy access. We have also implemented the highly effective Aventa online curriculum that allows students to work online at home and school to complete courses at their own pace. These classes are open to high school and adult students.
The Lending Library has a wide selection of books for borrowing. We have established College and Career Bulletin boards to showcase academic progress and job opportunities. Job listings are updated weekly and many students have found employment using this resource.
Our gym is now open and is currently used for the Fit After Fifty, Zumba Gold and Arthritis Foundation exercise classes.
Our restructured ESL Program includes computer and technology skills training at every level. Students have weekly access to our computer labs for language and writing skills as well as internet research.
Our Career Technical Education program continue the Web Page Design class (day and evening) for building web pages. We have combined the Information Technology (IT) Essentials and Discovery 1, Small Office and Home Office Networking classes to focus on key skills in both of these classes. The Discovery 1 class is the first class in the sequence required for the Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) certification and are included in the Cisco Certified Network Associates. (CCNA) programs.
The Vallejo Adult School Leadership Team is continuing to work with staff from Solano Community College on the articulation of our ESL, academic and vocational programs to develop pathways between our schools. This ongoing collaboration may also identify service gaps that can be addressed by new programs to assist students as they transition to higher education.
Please come to the Adult School Office for more information on these and other programs and feel free to contact me about any of our programs at PJacobs@vallejo.k12.ca.us.
